Initial Exam:
If the initial exam indicates that orthodontic treatment should start soon, the next step is to schedule an appointment for diagnostic records.

Diagnostic Records:
Diagnostic records include special dental models prepared in "centric relation," (with the lower jaw in the proper position in the jaw joints), x-rays of the teeth and the head, photographs of the teeth and the face, and other related measurements.

Develop Treatment Plan:
When the diagnostic records have been prepared, Dr. Carlson studies them and prepares a treatment plan, which is a set of recommendations to be considered.

Consultation:
A consultation is then held by Dr. Carlson with the patient/parents to discuss the treatment plan options, explain the various responsibilities and risks, and to make business and insurance arrangements.

Treatment:
Once a treatment plan has been adopted and all business arrangements have been made, appointments can be scheduled to start the actual treatment.
